Discover Hawaii and all it has to offer

The islands of Hawaii are a great vacation area for anyone wanting sunshine, sand, and a little adventure. Your trip does not have to cost a fortune, though. Find out about the places to get great souvenirs, tasty food and more at a lower price. I will also give you a few spots where you can splurge if you want a day to do so.

Before you prepare for your trip, here is a list of things to remember:

Time

The time in Hawaii is five hours behind what it is here in Texas. If is is 12 p.m. CST, is 7 a.m. HST in Hawaii.

Currency

U.S. dollars are accepted everywhere. Credit cards accepted at most businesses.

Cell phones

Cell phones from the mainland will work in Hawaii. Check with your carrier to see if there are any additional charges.

Clothing

Dress in Hawaii is very casual. Pack dresses, shorts, T-shirts, flip flops, and swimsuits for the daytime. A hat and sunglasses are also strongly suggested. Bring a nice outfit for dinner, but nothing too fancy is necessary.

Tipping

Tip as you usually would anywhere else: 15 to 20 percent. For porters, $1 per bag is suitable. Give housekeeping $1 per night.
