About Maira Garcia
Maira is a 24-year-old media professional who graduated from Texas State University-San Marcos with a master of arts degree in mass communication in 2009. Areas of research included political communication, social media, Latino media and print media. Maira received her B.A. in print journalism and political science from Texas State in 2007.
In addition to being a smarty pants (and a little weird for getting all those degrees so early), Maira can make lots of stuff happen on the web. She is an award-winning writer and multimedia producer. Maira can write great content, shoot video, take photos, build websites and create some sweet graphic design. She hand-codes websites, mostly because she doesn't own a copy of Dreamweaver, but that doesn't mean she does not know how to use it. Maira loves to create and be creative.
When she's not being geeky on the web, Maira is running really long distances, checking out a good show in one of Austin's many fine venues, or hanging out with friends. Maira is slightly obsessed with mini dachshunds (she has two), Twitter, vegan food and fashion.
